The 2022 Winter Olympics are officially underway! Despite several controversies raised prior to the start of the event, followed by boycotts from several political figures, Beijing remains the only city to host both summer and winter games. Over 3,000 athletes will participate, representing 84 countries. There are two new countries joining this year’s Olympic events--Haiti and Peru--both providing competition in the Alpine skiing event.
Of the more than 3,000 participants, The United States is represented by 224 athletes across 15 sports. Included in the 224 Olympians are 28 Midwest athletes to cheer for.
