Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the federal law which includes protection of individuals against discrimination on the bases of religion. The federal law applies to companies with 15 or more employees, and states may have additional discrimination laws which protect employees of smaller companies. In order to comply with the law, employers and employees must work together in an interactive process to discuss a religious accommodation request.
